Cheapest electricity plan for EV charging in Sydney
Sydney's home electricity market is the biggest of any Australian capital: 29 retailers, all selling over Ausgrid's wires, competing for your custom. For an EV owner charging at home overnight, that competition is worth chasing.
The short answer
Of the 1,127 residential plans on offer in Sydney, the spread for overnight EV charging runs from $80.18 to $921.20 a year — the same Hyundai Ioniq 5 Long Range, the same 12,000km, the same house, $841.02 apart depending only on which plan you're on.
OVO Energy's The EV Plan sits at the bottom of that range, at 4.09 cents per kilowatt hour between midnight and 6am. It's purpose-built for EV owners, which is why nothing else on the Ausgrid network comes close.

Charging overnight beats charging at midday on nearly every Sydney plan, with 6 exceptions. OVO Energy is the biggest of them: shift the charge to the middle of the day and the annual cost drops by $377.69.
